In 2015, a team of researchers from the Federal University of Sao Paulo Brazil tested the effects of red light therapy on 64 obese women to one of two groups over a 20 week period.
Group 1… exercise (aerobic and resistance) training + red light therapy
Group 2… exercise (aerobic and resistance) training and NO red light therapy
The women in group 1 doubled the amount of fat loss compared to group 2 and had a greater increase in skeletal muscle mass than the non red therapy group.
Participants in the treatment group demonstrated overall reduction in total circumference across the three areas of 3.51 inches compared with minimal reduction in the sham treatments.
Study 2:
Scientists from George Washington University conducted an independent physician-led trial to test the ability of red light therapy to reduce fat on the waist, hips and thighs of obese individuals.
When researchers assessed the patients three weeks after the trial began, (one week after the trial ended) the results were remarkable. “Compared with baseline, a statistically significant 2.99 in mean loss was observed.”

In another study, 67 volunteers participated in a 2 week study and received either red light therapy or sham treatment 3 times a week for two weeks. Two weeks later, reduction in circumference of the waist hips and thighs were assessed.
