WHO WE TREAT

Are you experiencing these signs of sciatic nerve compression

This is not generic lower back pain. Sciatica follows a nerve, and the symptoms follow it too. You may be a candidate for our protocol if you experience:

  • Shooting or burning pain from the lower back into the buttock, thigh, or calf
  • Numbness or tingling that travels down one leg
  • A deep ache in the hip or buttock that worsens the longer you sit
  • Leg weakness or a sensation that your foot drags when walking
  • Pain that spikes when you cough, sneeze, or bend forward

Understanding sciatica: what is actually compressing your nerve

One nerve, multiple causes.

The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in the body. It exits the lower spine, passes through the pelvis, and runs down each leg to the foot. When something compresses or irritates the nerve root where it exits the spine, pain radiates along the entire pathway. Each cause produces similar symptoms. Each requires a different treatment approach. That is why sciatica that gets treated as one generic condition keeps coming back.

The inflammation cycle that keeps the nerve compressed

Once the nerve root is irritated, the body responds with inflammation. Inflammation is a healing mechanism – but around a compressed nerve, it makes things worse. Swollen tissue increases the pressure on the nerve, which increases the pain signal, which triggers more protective muscle spasm, which increases compression further. The body enters a feedback loop it cannot break on its own. Meanwhile, the disc, ligament, or muscle tissue causing the original compression is running in Biological Debt – lacking the cellular energy to repair itself and release the nerve. Until that energy deficit is addressed, the cycle repeats.

Why Standard Sciatica Treatments Provide Temporary Relief

Epidural steroid injections reduce inflammation around the nerve root. But the injection does not repair the herniated disc, release the piriformis, or rebuild the degenerated tissue that caused the compression. When the steroid wears off, the nerve is still compressed, and the pain returns.

Pain medications mask the signal. Muscle relaxants reduce spasm temporarily. Neither intervention gives the damaged tissue the energy it needs to heal. Surgery also creates scar tissue around the nerve root (epidural fibrosis), which can cause new compression where none existed before.

Dr. Smith’s approach starts with identifying the exact source of compression – disc, stenosis, or piriformis – then targets the damaged tissue with HILT laser and PEMF to restore the cellular energy it needs to repair. Shockwave therapy breaks apart scar tissue adhesions restricting blood flow to the area. The goal is to eliminate the compression, not mask the pain it causes.

BEYOND CHIROPRACTIC

About the Doctors

I built ABLE because I refused to accept surgery as the only answer. After football injuries left me with serious groin damage and multiple torn tendons, every doctor said “you need to go under the knife.” I said no – and spent three months healing my own body with High-Intensity Laser and PEMF therapy instead. For me: No surgery. No drugs. Full recovery.

That philosophy drives everything we do at ABLE. Dr. Jason and I have treated thousands of patients here in Apple Valley who came to us after years of pain, failed injections, and surgeons ready to cut. Our approach combines traditional neuro-structural chiropractic adjustments with advanced cellular therapies – PEMF, Red Light, High-Intensity Laser, and Shockwave – to restore movement, repair damaged tissue, and get your body healing the way it was designed to.

My rule is simple: try everything you can before you cut. Because once you cut, you can never uncut.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sciatica Treatment in Apple Valley

That is exactly what your Discovery Visit determines. Dr. Smith performs a physical investigation with digital X-rays to identify the compression source. Disc herniations produce specific neurological patterns – which dermatome is affected tells him which disc level is involved. Piriformis syndrome presents differently: the pain often worsens with sitting and specific hip movements, and it responds to manual piriformis release testing. Spinal stenosis typically produces symptoms in both legs that worsen with walking and improve when sitting. Dr. Smith does not guess. He tests, images, and builds your Breakthrough Report around what the evidence shows.

Many cases of sciatica resolve without surgery when the underlying tissue damage and inflammation are properly addressed. The sciatic nerve itself is rarely damaged – it is compressed. Remove the compression by repairing the disc, releasing the piriformis, or reducing the inflammation, and the nerve signal normalizes. ABLE’s protocol uses HILT laser to drive ATP production in the damaged disc or muscle tissue, PEMF to restore the electromagnetic environment cells need for repair, and Shockwave to break apart fibrotic adhesions. Surgery remains an option when nerve function is deteriorating rapidly – and Dr. Smith will tell you directly if that is the case.

Timelines vary by cause and severity. Acute sciatica from a recent disc herniation may respond within 4-6 weeks of treatment. Chronic sciatica that has persisted for months or years typically takes longer because the tissue has accumulated more scar tissue and deeper Biological Debt. Dr. Smith sets measurable benchmarks during your Discovery Visit – specific functional milestones, not vague “see how it goes” timelines. If progress stalls, the protocol adjusts.

Because the injection treats the inflammation, not the cause of the inflammation. Each epidural steroid injection reduces swelling around the nerve root, which provides relief. But the herniated disc, stenotic canal, or spasming piriformis is still there. When the steroid metabolizes, the tissue re-inflames. Over time, the body develops tolerance to the steroid compound, and each injection lasts shorter than the last. Dr. Smith’s approach targets the tissue generating the inflammation rather than suppressing the inflammatory response itself.

Your Discovery Visit starts with a physical and neurological investigation specific to sciatic nerve compression – not a generic back exam. Dr. Smith performs digital X-rays if needed, tests dermatome patterns to locate the compression level, evaluates hip and piriformis involvement, and builds your Breakthrough Report: a plain-language explanation of what is compressing your nerve and why previous treatments have not resolved it. You also receive your first Energy Deposit treatment session.
