Overcoming “Keto Flu”

When people first begin taking ketones, they are so excited about the incredible benefits that Keto brings. How could you not be excited about fat loss, reduced brain fog, better sleep, decrease in inflammation and more?
The “Keto Flu” is the number one reason people don’t get the most out of Ketones. But these symptoms are so easy to overcome!
The truth is that only about 20-25% of people will ever experience symptoms of “Keto Flu”. And if you do experience any symptoms, they will usually only last between 2-4 days.
What Causes “Keto Flu”?
“Keto Flu” is a result of your body’s adaptation to carbohydrate withdrawal. Carbohydrates retain water. When your body is switching to a low carb diet, it excretes water and electrolytes. Our body needs more electrolytes during the induction phase of the Ketogenic diet.
Your body has been burning on glycogen for a long time. As you switch and adapt to ketones, it takes the body some time to get adapted. A lot of people are so excited about the benefits, but sometimes a small negative can sabotage that.
The symptoms of “Keto Flu” include:
  • Fatigue
  • Headahces
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Muscle Cramps
  • Light-headedness
  • Skin Problems
  • Diarrhea

Symptoms may be more likely to occur any time you are excessively sweating- playing sports or working out, if you are lacking sleep, or if you are under stress. If you are feeling any of these symptoms at the beginning of your Keto diet, you can replenish your electrolytes a few different ways. We suggest drinking water with pink  Himalayan salt with lemon.

“Keto Flu” may make you feel like the Keto diet isn’t worth it, but IT IS! Just stay patient, the benefits will very quickly outweigh the negative symptoms.
